Researching - Recovering - Recording - Retaining British History
The Priscan Archaeology project began in October 2011 with a vision that we could create a model that is advantageous to landowners, archaeologists and serious metal-detectorists as a whole, in providing the knowledge and experience which we have gained.
We are privileged to be known as "Detectologists" and "A Professional Team" by esteemed archaeologists. This is a pure blend of archaeology and detectology in it's finest form.
The team have several years' worth of experience in fieldwalking and artefact recovery utilising state-of-the-art metal/mineral detection equipment.
We use a technique known as "Three-Dimensional Fieldwalking" enabling not only the surface area of the land to be fully covered, but also the cubic capacity to a depth of up to 4 inches (for small items) below the underlying survey area too.
Priscan Archaeology have been extremely fortunate in recovering and recording a broad date-range of artefacts from a bespoke permission portfolio, nationwide.
"Priscan: Dealing with or existing in ancient times"
Since the formation of Priscan Archaeology we have had the most incredible journey so far and have met some of the most generous landowners you could possibly wish to meet. Without their gracious help in granting permission, and planned access to their land, we would have very little to offer with regards to the recovery and the recording of our past history. It is with great appreciation, and anticipation, that we continue to grow our relationships with current landowners, and of course future landowners across the UK, embraced in the pursuit of our lost heritage.
We are extremely fortunate to have worked with over 100 landowners and farmers in 10 counties.
These cordial relationships have resulted in the discovery of previously undiscovered, and unexplored, historical sites that include Romano-British and Medieval settlements.
High Definition images of the recoveries to date can be viewed by clicking here and cover a wide range of periods including; Mesolithic, Neolithic, Bronze Age, Iron Age, Romano-British, Saxon, Viking, Medieval and Post Medieval era's.
We are proud to support the Portable Antiquities Scheme and The British Museum.
The Priscan Archaeology team are self-recorders for the PAS (British Museum).
We are honoured to work alongside several professional archaeological companies and institutions such as The University of Central Lancashire, Rubicon Heritage and most recently, the highly acclaimed and revolutionary DigVentures team.
Priscan Archaeology operate as a voluntary unit and are totally self-funded in every aspect of our research and recovery program.
"The challenge of history is to recover the past and introduce it to the present"
